ICMART 2020 - Congress postponement - Athens 2-4 July 2021

Dear Members

We are sorry to announce the postponement of the ICMART Congress planned to be held in Athens 26-28 June 2020. The timing is just 12 weeks away and it is almost certain that the pandemic will not be under control. Protecting the health, safety, and well-being of our members and attendees is paramount, and serves as the reason for our decision to postpone. Mass gatherings and social distancing is the new social norm, this would make face to face conferences impossible. We apologise for the inconvenience.

Technology may offer a chance to deliver some lectures on line. This is a project we are working on and will keep you informed.

The good news is that the Athens Congress is not lost, but has been postponed and will be held 2-4 July 2021

We wish you good luck and good health in these trying times

.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Message

Dear Members

Coronavirus (COVID-19) is an evolving international health concern, and ICMART acknowledges the significant impact and disruption that the COVID-19 pandemic will have on your personal and professional lives. The situation is changing rapidly with more people and more countries being affected every day. It is generating unprecedented anxiety in the wider community and in all healthcare professions. Safety and wellbeing of our members is one of our primary concerns.

Over 100 countries are in lock down and have closed their borders to travel. Group meetings have been banned in many countries, social distancing enforced and in the most severe restrictions people are not permitted to leave the house. This renders any congress impossible to stage.

Congress 2020 Athens (hosted by SAMAG) has been in the planning for the last two years and is now at an advanced stage with only three months to the Congress date. The venue is booked and many speakers have committed to the event. COVID-19 is a significant disruption with an unpredictable outcome. SAMAG is cautiously optimistic that the pandemic will be under control in June so the Congress can proceed. How this evolves remains to be seen.

We wish you good luck and good health for your efforts in helping your patients and your country during these extremely challenging and confronting times,

Watch this space for future updates.

Sad News – Dr. Emil Iliev MD (1947-2020)

Emil

ICMART board has to announce with deep sadness the passing of our dear friend and widely known and internationally highly respected representative of Medical acupuncture, Dr. Emil Iliev. He died at the age of 73 from Covid-19 in his home town Sofia in Bulgaria.

He was the pioneer of Medical Acupuncture in Bulgaria and supported ICMART activities from its early times on. He organized two successful ICMART World Congresses 1995 and 2016. He leaves a big gap not only in the world of acupuncture but also in the Jazz culture of the Balkans. We also lose a great promoter of Jazz music. We will always miss him.

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Hugh MacPherson.

HMcP

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Hugh MacPherson. He was the Foundation Professor of Acupuncture Research at York University and founder of the Northern College of Acupuncture and the York Clinic for Integrated Healthcare. His work has put acupuncture on a scientific basis and greater acceptance in the west. He has published over 100 peer- reviewed scientific papers and co-authored three books.

His research looked at the benefits of acupuncture in a number of conditions, including irritable bowel syndrome, depression, neck pain, low back pain and chronic pain. His research has been shown on BBC television. ICMART Congresses have been fortunate to have featured him as a speaker. He is a man of many talents and interests, including a PhD in fluid mechanics before he became interested in acupuncture.
Vale Hugh.

International Medical Acupuncture Congress of FILASMA with ICMART participation in Querétaro, México.

Last May, from 16th to 18th, the International Medical Acupuncture Congress of FILASMA took place in Querétaro, México.
As partners for many years, the Ibero Latin American Federation of Medical Acupuncture invited all ICMART Board Members to share their knowledge and experience in this wonderful Congress.
President Hedi Luxenburger, Vicepresident Tomas Dawid, Board Members Francisco Lozano, Marcia Yamamura, Tom Burgoon and Paola Poli attended the Congress and contributed with lectures and workshops. (did I forget somebody?)
It was also the opportunity to welcome new ICMART Members from Paraguay, Ecuador and Colombia.

FILASMA had its Elections, and ICMART Board Member Dr. Marcia Yamamura from Brazil was elected President for the next two years.
